Florida State at Minnesota

Postgame Quotes

Minnesota Head Coach Marlene Stollings
On rebounding...
"It was disappointing. I just don't think that we handled their physicality. We talked about it in the locker room. They're a very good rebounding team. They're plus nine on the season and they've obviously played some tough opponents, so we knew they were a very solid rebounding team. Having played against Georgia and North Carolina and having out-rebounded both teams, I had a higher expectation that we would handle the physicality better than we did, and we're certainly disappointed that we didn't handle the physicality and rebounding better."

On thoughts on the team's performance...
"That we have to keep working on the physical part of the game. We do have a lot of youth out there at times. We started three freshmen, one newcomer and Carlie was the only veteran out there, so I wasn't particularly pleased with the start of they game. [Florida State] came out and hit three threes and there were miscoverages on our youth. We have to continue to address that. The overall theme of the night was rebounding."
On shooting efficiency...
"We need to be more efficient. Our percentages are not where we'd like them. We're high volume shooters right now, and that's been consistent over the last three games. A lot of that has to do with competition that we're playing, but if you can handle that high level competition and score, you're certainly going to against people who aren't as high caliber. It's a good challenge for us and we knew this going into the season. We upgraded the schedule for this very reason to see where we're at and where we're heading in terms of the big picture of our program, but, right now, we have to regroup and refocus."

On what the team will focus on in upcoming practices...
"We need take the situations we've learned from these games and really apply it. Rebounding is one thing that we really need to work on and that's just hard. We have to come out and play for 40 minutes with physicality and toughness and aggressiveness. We need to keep that mentality throughout practices and take instruction and really apply it."
On Florida State's defensive schemes...
"They had a good defensive scheme, but I though we were still getting good looks out of their defense, but not all of them were falling. We had some turnovers and stuff, but it was a good defense. I still thought we were penetrating gaps well and hitting shooters well."

Florida State Head Coach Sue Semrau
Opening statement...
"It's always a tough place to come up and play in Minnesota, i think Marlene does a tremendous job with her teams, the fans are always a strong support system here. My days back when i coached at Wisconsin it was always one of the places we hated to come the most, so when we drew Minnesota i knew it would be tough. I thought we got off to a good start, we shot the ball well. And we went away from what we do offensively, but they hit some great shots, a lot of threes, drove the ball extremely well, and made it a tough game."
On how her teams offence can be so efficient...
"Well we just have a lot of different weapons. You can't really focus in on one player, and we even got some great weapons off the bench, we just have a lot of different people we can go to right now."

Senior Ivey Slaughter
On getting possessions...
"Defiantly before he game our coaches told us Minnesota is really physical and a real tough team, and they were going to play hard. Once we saw that they were a tough team we had to become tougher and i think we stepped up in that aspect."
On how Florida State takes pride in their aggressive defense...
"In practice we start off with defensive drills all the time and i think that is what makes us a great team on the offensive end because it always starts with defensive. Defense is at the heart of a team."
