Longbella Ties For Program's Second Best Round

Thomas Longbella shot a 8-under-par 63 in the second round of the Ka'anapali Classic which tied him for the second best round in Minnesota program history. The freshman recorded the best round since Rúnar Arnorsson notched a 62 last year at the Barona Collegiate Cup. He is the first Gopher to finish with 63 since James McLean did it in 1999.
Seeking his second straight top-10 finish, Longbella is tied for fifth with a score of 136 (-6). His 63 included eight birdies and no bogeys.
Along with Longbella's historic day, the Gophers improved from the opening round of the Ka'anapali Classic, cutting 20 strokes off of their first-round score. They moved up the standings and are tied for ninth at 570 overall.
Riley Johnson also registered an impressive day two, finishing the round with a 3-under-par 68. Johnson recovered from a double bogey on his second hole. He sank six birdies in his final 16 holes to bring his score to 141 (-1). The junior, who is seeking his first top-20 finish of the season, is tied for 18th.
Justin Doeden improved on his first round score, even-par on the day. Overall, he sits in 69th with a score of 148 (+6).
William Leaf and Arnorsson round out the Minnesota lineup, carding 77 and 75 respectively. Leaf finished the round strong, birdying his last three holes.
Georgia leads the field while South Carolina's Keenan Huskey and Clemson's Doc Redman are the top individuals at the end of day two.
The final round in Hawai'i tees off at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow.
