No. 4 seeded Minnesota will host NC State in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship this Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT. The Gophers earned an automatic bid after winning the 2016 Big Ten Tournament title in a 2-1 decision over Rutgers on Sunday afternoon.
"We're excited," head coach Stefanie Golan said. "For us to get a seed is a really cool thing for the program. This team has worked hard to put themselves in a position to guarantee we'd be at home."
In addition to winning the Big Ten Tournament, the Gophers earned a share of the conference's regular season title after finishing Big Ten play with a record of 7-1-3. Minnesota is 16-3-3 on the year, and is unbeaten in the past nine games.
This will be the program's tenth tournament appearance. The Gophers will be joined by Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, Wisconsin as representatives of the Big Ten Conference.
The championship provides for a field of 64 teams. Thirty-one conference champions qualify automatically; the balance of the field is selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Committee.
Tickets will be available at mygophersports.com tomorrow, Nov. 8, at 9 a.m. CT.
