Gophers in the Polls: November 9

The Maroon and Gold now sport five top-10 programs after this past week's victory-filled results. Below is a summary of each team, and tickets for all upcoming home events are available by visiting mygophersports.com.

Volleyball - #2

Last Week: Minnesota earned a 3-0 win over Maryland, Sunday, in College Park, Md.

This Week: The University of Minnesota continues its road stint as it travels to Illinois and Northwestern, Saturday and Sunday night. Both matches are set for 7 p.m., start times.

Women's Hockey - #2

Last Week: The Gophers swept Minnesota State at Ridder Arena this past weekend, winning Friday by a 5-0 margin before an 8-1 triumph on Sunday afternoon.

This Week: Minnesota is off this weekend before returning to action next Friday and Saturday for a WCHA road trip to North Dakota.

Soccer - #8

Last Week: Minnesota won the 2016 Big Ten Women's Soccer Tournament after a 2-1 decision over Rutgers on Sunday afternoon at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. That followed a 1-0 win over Michigan in the semifinals Friday.

This Week: The Gophers earned the Big Ten's automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship, and the fourth-seeded Maroon and Gold host N.C. State Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Men's Hockey - #8

Last Week: After renewing their rivalry with North Dakota Friday night in a 5-5 tie, the Gophers topped the Fighting Hawks Saturday night with a 2-0 victory at Mariucci Arena. Sophomore forward Tommy Novak was named the Big Ten First Star of the Week while junior forward Mike Szmatula was tabbed the Big Ten Third Star of the Week.

Coming Up: The Gophers are idle this weekend before a home-and-home series against Minnesota State, Nov. 18-19.

Wrestling - #9

Last Week: The Gophers placed 18 wrestlers in the Warren Williamson / Daktronics Open Sunday in Brookings, S.D., including 125-pound titlewinner Ethan Lizak. Meanwhile in Cleveland, Brett Pfarr earned a win in the NWCA All-Star Classic.

This Week: The Gophers will head east next weekend for the Journeymen/Asics Collegiate Classic in Troy, N.Y.

Men's Swimming & Diving - #15

Last Week: Minnesota won 15 of 16 events en route to a 199-96 victory over North Dakota at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on Friday.

Coming Up: The Gophers host the Minnesota Invitational from Thursday through Saturday, while also competing in the USA College Challenge in Indianapolis.

Women's Swimming & Diving - #17

Last Week: The Gophers captured wins in all 16 events as they toppled the Fighting Hawks, 203-90, at home.

Coming Up: The Gophers host the Minnesota Invitational from Thursday through Saturday, while also competing in the USA College Challenge in Indianapolis.

Women's Cross Country - #26

Last Week: Minnesota hosted its final home meet of the 2016 season as 98 runners participated in Rocky's Run, an open 6K race at Les Bolstad Course.

Coming Up: The Gophers travel to Iowa City, Iowa, for the NCAA Midwest Regional this Friday.
