Gophers Fall at No. 6 South Carolina

Minnesota (7-4) lost 98-58 at No. 6 South Carolina (7-1) on Sunday. Kenisha Bell scored 16 points with a career-high three 3-pointers to lead the Gophers. Whitney Tinjum scored 11 points, and Jessie Edwards tallied 10 rebounds.
The Gophers kept the rebounding matchup close at a 45-38 disadvantage, even scoring 21 second chance points. Minnesota had only three more turnovers than South Carolina with 14, but the Gophers shot 28.6 percent from the field while the Gamecocks shot 52.8 percent.
Kaela Davis and Allisha Gray led the Gamecocks with 22 and 18 points, respectively. Davis made six of South Carolina's 16 3-pointers. The Gophers made 10 shots from behind the arc.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter: The Gamecocks scored the first 15 points of the game before Minnesota got on the board with a Tinjum 3-pointer. The Gophers outscored South Carolina 13-9 in the last 5:04 to trail 24-13 at the end of the quarter. Gadiva Hubbard made two 3-pointers to lead Minnesota's first-period scoring.
Second Quarter: South Carolina made seven more 3-pointers to bring their first-half total to 12, while the Gophers had five at halftime. Bell made two 3-pointers in the second quarter, and the rest of Minnesota's points came from the free throw line. The Gophers made 8 of 10 free throw attempts. The Gamecocks led 57-27 at halftime
Third Quarter: Tinjum scored seven points in the third. South Carolina extended its lead to 85-40.
Fourth Quarter: Minnesota made three of its 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.
MORE NOTES
*Bell scored in double figures for the 10th time this season, including her eight time with at least 15 points. Tinjum turned in her third double-digit game, the last two coming on the road.
*Carlie Wagner's streak of games scoring in double figures ended at 44.
*Edwards has four games with 10 or more rebounds and has at least nine in each of the last five games.
COMING UP NEXT
Minnesota will host Belmont on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at noon. The Gophers' last non-conference game will be against Kent State on Dec. 22 at 7 p.m.
