Around the Bases With Nolan Burchill

Minneapolis, Minn. - At Sioux Falls Lincoln High School, Nolan Burchill played three sports and was named academic all-state twice. He was 3-1 his senior season with a 1.51 ERA and 51 strikeouts.
GopherSports.com spoke with Burchill about the love of baseball and school.
GopherSports.com: How did you get into baseball?
Nolan Burchill: I got into baseball through my Dad and older brother.
GS: Why did you choose the University of Minnesota?
NB: I chose Minnesota due to the great history of the baseball program and the relationship I had with the coaching staff.
GS: What is your top baseball accomplishment so far?
NB: My best baseball accomplish was pitching a shutout in the state championship my sophomore year of high school or throwing no hitters against our cross town rival high school my junior and senior seasons.
GS: Why do you enjoy baseball?
NB: I enjoy baseball because it's the one place I can get away and my mind is focused 100 percent on one thing when I'm on the mound. I'm locked in.
GS: What are your interests outside of baseball?
NB: I love to hunt and fish as well as play other sports for fun!
GS: Have you learned anything new while being at the University of Minnesota?
NB: I've learned a lot about new arm care exercises and about how busy a college athlete really is.
GS: Who is your favorite athlete?
NB: My favorite athlete would have to be Vince Carter, he could slam.
GS: Being a freshman, do you ask the upperclassmen for advice on how to succeed as a player as well as academically?
NB: I always go to the upperclassmen for advice about baseball and they help me out a lot. They also help me out on what classes I should take and how they got through balancing school and baseball.
GS: How has your first year of college been? Any moments that stick out?
NB: My first year has been great. Pitching in the Steak N' Beans Series was really fun.
GS: What are your thoughts about the fall Steak N' Beans Series?
NB: The Steak N' Beans Series was really fun. It was a great experience to put on the uniform and pitch for the gold team.
GS: What are you looking forward to during the spring season?
NB: I'm excited to travel and just soak it all in. I really don't know what to expect but I'm excited to play against some of the best teams in the country!
