Gophers in the Polls: December 21

Although several are idle during the annual December break, many Gophers teams continue to make their mark in the rankings, with a summary of each ranked Minnesota team below. Tickets for all upcoming home events are available by visiting mygophersports.com.
Women's Hockey - #2
Coming Up: Minnesota is idle through December, returning to action on Jan. 8 in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game. That game will pit the Gophers against Minnesota State at 3:00 p.m. at Braemar Arena in Edina.
Volleyball - #3
Last Week: The Gophers concluded their season in Columbus, Ohio, falling in four sets to eventual national champion Stanford in the national semifinal. Senior Sarah Wilhite was selected the AVCA National Player of the Year on Friday, the program's first-ever such award.
Men's Gymnastics - #4
Last Week: Team Gold edged out Team Maroon for the win after a close final score of 241.800-241.000 at the annual Intrasquad Meet on Dec. 14.
Coming Up: Minnesota will officially begin the 2017 competition season at the Windy City Invitational on Jan. 14.
Wrestling - #9
Coming Up: The Gophers resume competition on New Year's Day, traveling to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the two-day Southern Scuffle.
Men's Hockey - #11
Coming Up: The Gophers have three weekends off in December before hosting the Mariucci Classic on Dec. 30 and 31, welcoming Mercyhurt, Alabama-Huntsville and UMass to Minneapolis.
Women's Gymnastics - #16
Coming Up: Minnesota earned the 16th overall ranking nationally and third in the Big Ten Preseason Poll. The Golden Gophers will open their 2017 competition in a home meet against Denver on Jan. 7.
Women's Swimming & Diving - #16
Coming Up: The Gophers will not return to action until the new year, facing Hawaii in Honolulu on January 7.
Also Receiving Votes: The Gopher men's basketball team received six points in the Associated Press poll while the men's swimming & diving team earned two points in the CSCAA poll.
