Recap

Minnesota Head Coach Marlene Stollings

On getting ready for Big Ten play...
"This game was a good way to go into break. Everybody got to play and we had some really solid individual performances. It's nice to go into break feeling like you had a solid performance by everybody. We feel we've been very battle tested here in non conference play and the Big Ten will be no different. I like our record based on our non conference opponents. Going in 9-4 is a good place for us to go in based on our schedule that we have. We're looking forward to the start of Big Ten play."

On what caused the slow start in scoring for Kent State...
"I thought we were very locked into the scout in the first quarter. I thought we gave them a lot of trouble. They ran exactly what we had prepared for and I thought we reacted, got to the right spots and made those spots tough. They were contested shots. They had a few open ones but for the most part they got rattled pretty quickly because the looks weren't clean. I think it had a lot to do with our defense."

On the upcoming break...
"I like how we're progressing. I like when we're in break and we can spend some more time with them one-on-one. We spent a lot of time this last week, the coaches did, being able to work with them and being with them. That's one of comments we made after the game, that it showed. They got that one-on-on time with us that they weren't able to have because they were in class. They have pretty much a pro schedule now. They have three weeks were they get to play basketball, and, for a basketball player, it's a great time of year. You can really spend a lot of extra time on your game, honing your skills. No excuses. You don't have the stress of class. It's a great time for us to really take a big jump here."

On Gadvia Hubbard's absence...
"We expect her to be out approximately three weeks with mono."

On her approach for the game today...
"Going in there and doing what the coaches told us in practice. Locking into the scout. Really trying to rebound and do the little things. That was the big focus. We just played really well as a team and it was a fun game."
On confidence in this game...
"It's nice having no class to worry about. You just feel free. We really have gotten to the gym here lately, especially with break, working on the shots, doing those extra little things. That helps us feel confident going into the game."
Redshirt Sophomore Kenisha Bell
On her play and preparing for Big Ten play...
"I've been working pretty hard. Outside of the gym and practices, I hit up the coaches and ask them what I can do to get better. I think that helped me over the past couple weeks with getting my game better, which is big for me because I'm kind of hard on myself and how I play most of the time. Working outside of the practices has really helped me."
On her approach beginning the second half...
"Coach always tells me that I play casually, so I think that's what got to me the most. I don't want her to constantly repeat herself. It made me up my tempo."
