MINNEAPOLIS - Senior forward Kate Schipper has been named the WCHA's Co-Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Gophers with three points in Minnesota's series split on the road at top-ranked Wisconsin last weekend.
Schipper scored both goals in the Gophers' 2-0 win and added an assist in the game two loss. For the series, Schipper had two goals, one assist, 10 shots on goal, and a plus-one rating. Her two-goal game tied a career-high. She was on the ice for three of Minnesota's four goals in the series and zero goals against.
In game one, Schipper game Minnesota a 1-0 lead late in the second period when she scored a power-play goal, which marked her 100th career point as a Gopher. Schipper became the 33rd Gopher in program history to surpass the 100-career point mark.
She added her 101st point on an empty-net goal with 23 seconds remaining to seal the upset win over the top-ranked Badgers. In game two, Schipper assisted Megan Wolfe's power play goal late in the first period to cut Wisconsin's early lead to two at 4-2.
Schipper's three-point series was tied for second-best among WCHA players, and her two power-play points led the league. Her 10 shots on goal were tied for the fifth-most among WCHA players as well.
The award marks Schipper's first WCHA weekly accolades of her career and is the fifth WCHA Offensive Player of the Week award for the Gophers this season.
Schipper and the Gophers wrap up the 2016 calendar year with a non-conference series on the road at Boston University this Friday and Saturday.
