Gophers Honored as Academic All-B1G

MINNEAPOLIS - Thirteen Golden Gopher women's cross country student-athletes are among the 76 total University of Minnesota student-athletes who have earned Academic All-Big Ten honors, the Big Ten Conference office announced Wednesday.
In total, 1,015 student-athletes were recognized by the Big Ten who competed in fall sports across the conference. To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Minnesota honorees included 27 individuals from the football team, 18 from soccer, 13 from women's cross country, ten from volleyball and eight from men's cross country.
Of Minnesota's fall honorees, two student-athletes from the women's cross country team, Emily Betz and Abby Kargol, hold a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
The 13 honorees include repeat honorees Courtney Alama (2015), Patty O'Brien (2015), Madeline Strandemo (2014, 2015), and Tess Wasowicz (2015) along with nine first-time honorees.
