Northern Illinois Game to Air Live on BTN

The University of Minnesota, in conjunction with the Big Ten Network, announced Wednesday that Sunday’s men’s basketball game against Northern Illinois will now be televised live on BTN. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. against the Huskies.
Sunday’s broadcast will be produced as part of the BTN Student U program, with Minnesota students fully staffing the entire telecast. Students Ryan Russell and David Nelson will announce the game, while Allie Krings will be the sideline reporter. All three have extensive experience in broadcasting Gopher sporting events for BTN Student U.
This game marks the fourth time in network history that a Student U production of a men’s basketball game will air live on BTN and BTN2Go. BTN’s Student U initiative, in which nearly 500 Big Ten students participate every year, not only provides students an educational look at the television business, but also helps groom the next crop of TV production and operations professionals. Students are responsible for calling the games, as well as operating the production and transmission equipment. Students in the program will produce over 700 Big Ten streams this year.
Previously announced as a BTN Plus streamed game, Sunday’s game can also be seen live on BTN2Go. Minnesota will now play four of its five December non-conference home games on BTN, including NJIT (Dec. 6), Georgia Southern (Dec. 9), Northern Illinois (Dec. 11) and Arkansas State (Dec. 23).
