Gophers Have Strong Second Round at PR Classic

The Gophers had a strong second day at the 2016 Puerto Rico Classic, posting a 4-over 252 as a team, and finishing the day in a tie for 12th after 36 holes.
Three Minnesota golfers improved on their first round scores, most notably Rúnar Arnorsson who had a season low round score of 70. Arnorsson had the best score on the team in the second round and led team with five birdies in the second round.
After leading the Gophers on the first day, Jon DuToit put together another nice round Monday, shooting a 73. DuToit is tied for 23rd heading into the final round.
Tom Vining rebounded from a high score in the first round and shot a 73 in the second round, tying DuToit for second on the team in Monday's round.
Justin Doeden had four birdies on the front nine, and finished with a round score of 76. Charlie Duensing birdied his final hole of the round, finishing with a round score of 80.
Alabama continues to lead the team competition heading into Tuesday's final round, with a 13-under team score of 563 through two rounds. Jonathan Hardee of Alabama also is holding onto his individual lead with a 137 through two rounds.
The final round of the competition will tee off Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. EST

Both Gophers playing in the individual competition improved on their first round scores in Monday's second round. Grady Meyer had two birdies in route to a round score of 72. Jose Mendez shot a 74 on Monday, one stroke better than his performance in the opening round.
