Kelley Named to Illinois Coaches Hall of Fame

MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota women's gymnastics alum, MaryAnne Kelley Elzen, was inducted into the Illinois High School Girls Gymnastics Coaches' Hall of Fame. 

The induction took place before the girls gymnastics Individual Event Finals of the State Meet on Saturday, Feb. 20 at Palatine High School. 

Kelley's mother, 1968 Olympic gymnast Diane Kelley, was the keynote speaker at the event.

In high school, Kelley won 12 gold medals, three silver and one bronze and helped lead William Fremd High School to four state championships in four years. 

As a Gopher, Kelley earned multiple NCAA All-America honors, earning first-team All-America honors in floor exercise in 2002, second-team All-American in all around in 2002 and vault in 2001. Kelley qualified as an individual to the 2001 NCAA Championships and led her team to its highest national finish at the time (ninth) at the 2002 NCAA Championships and helped the Gophers advance to four post-season NCAA appearances in her career. In 2002, she was a Honda Award Nominee.

Kelley was honored as the 2002 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year and was a 2002 All-Big Ten selection on floor exercise, the fourth All-Big Ten honor of her career. Kelley, a three-time team MVP and four-time Big Ten Gymnast of the Week holds a spot in the Minnesota record books with an All-Around score of 39.600 she set vs. Iowa (2/17/02). She also holds two program record book scores of 9.950 on the Beam (3/9/02 and 2/15/02) and is tied for first on Floor Exercise for program-high record score with a 9.975.
