No. 13 'U' to Host Big 4 Meet at Maturi Pavilion

No. 11 Michigan State, Illinois and Rutgers come to town
MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 13 University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team will host the Big 4 Meet this Sunday, March 1 to conclude Big Ten regular season competition. No. 11 Michigan State, Illinois and Rutgers will be in the competition with the 'U'.
UCLA (6-0) stands in first place in the league, followed by Minnesota, Michigan State and Iowa at 4-2. Four teams are tied at 3-3 as well. The top four teams in the 12-team Big Ten standings will be placed in the final night session at the Big Ten Championships on March 21 in Champaign, Ill.

2026 SO FAR
- The Minnesota gymnastics team enters Sunday's meet with a 6-3 (4-2 B1G) record. They've competed against a difficult schedule so far, but have posted a 4-2 record against top-25 ranked teams.
- After going 1-1 in their first meet at No. 5 Utah and vs. Iowa, Minnesota took down consecutive top-10 ranked opponents in No. 10 Arkansas and No. 5 Michigan at home. They also won Feb. 14 at No. 16 PSU for their first road win.
- Following a setback at Nebraska on Jan. 24, Minnesota reeled off consecutive 197+ performances with a 197.050 win over Iowa and a season-best 197.275 in a defeat to No. 5 UCLA.
- The Gophers defeated Washington in their last meet on Feb. 20, winning 196.950-196.300 to earn their second straight road win.
- The 'U' holds 23 event titles this year across eight meets, led by junior Jordyn Lyden and freshman Arianna Ostrum with five.
Minnesota ranks 13th overall in the Road to Nationals rankings, placing 15th on vault, 17th on bars, 9th on beam and 14th on the floor. - The 'U' is 3-1 at home this year, 2-2 on the road and 1-0 at neutral sites. In Big Ten competitions, they're 2-1 at home and 1-1 on the road thus far.
- Picked to finish fourth in the Big Ten Preseason Poll, Jordyn Lyden and Gianna Gerdes were picked as Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch for Minnesota.
WEEK EIGHT RECAP VS. WASHINGTON
- The No. 12 Minnesota gymnastics team took down the Washington Huskies on Friday night at Alaska Airlines Arena for their second straight win. The Gophers tallied a 196.950 while Washington finished with a 196.300. Minnesota moved to 6-3 (4-2 B1G) on the year
- The Gophers posted scores of 49.175 on vault, 49.200 on bars, 49.250 on beam and 49.325 on the floor.
- Teryn Crump won the vault title with a 9.900 while Jordyn Lyden won on bars with a 9.925. On the balance beam, UW's Chelsea Hallinan won with a 9.975. Minnesota's Jordyn Lyden also won on the floor with a 9.925. The Gophers' beam team had three 9.900-or-higher scores, led by Arianna Ostrum and Brooklyn Rowray with 9.925's.
- Jordyn Lyden won her fourth and fifth event titles of the year while Crump won her third vault title.
- Season-highs included Sarah Moraw on beam (9.900), Brooklyn Rowray on beam (9.925), Arianna Ostrum on beam (9.925) and Lacie Saltzmann on the floor (9.875).
BIG 4 AND BIG 5 MEET HISTORY
- Last season was the first year of the Big 4. The 'U' won their meet (formerly Big 5) for the first time since 2021. The 'U' (10-1, 8-1 B1G) went 49.275 on vault, 49.150 on bars, 48.850 on beam and 49.350 on floor for a score of 196.625.
- They outlasted Michigan, Maryland and Illinois. Sarah Moraw (9.900) won the vault title while Jordyn Lyden (9.950) won on bars and Mya Hooten (9.925) took home her eighth floor title in eight tries.
- In the 10 years since the Big Ten has been using Big Five's as the Big Ten Championships qualifier, Minnesota has finished first three times, second twice, third three times and fourth twice. Their best ever score was 197.425 in 2016, clinching their third ever Big Ten regular season title.
- 2024: 3rd: (196.900): Minnesota's floor score led the way with a 49.450, Mya Hooten posted a 9.975 to win an event title.
- 2023: 4th (195.800): Senior Maddie Quarles received a perfect 10 on vault, the first of her career and 6th Gopher to record a 10 on vault.
- 2022: 3rd (196.500): Lexy Ramler won the all-around (39.575) and T-1st on beam (9.950). Mya Hooten claimed the top spot on the floor (9.975).
- 2021: 1st (197.375): Lexy Ramler broke her own Gophers all-around record with a 39.850. Her previous record was 39.725. The new program-best score was highlighted by her first career perfect 10 on vault. She scored a 9.925 or higher on each event and won every event title.
- 2020: 2nd (196.650): Lexy Ramler took home the balance beam title for Minnesota.
- 2019: 2nd (196.700): Lexy Ramler took third in the all-around competition with her score of 39.450.
- 2018: 3rd (195.150): Ramler won a share of the all-around title with a 39.450. Ivy Lu won the bars title and Williams won a share of the floor title.
- 2017: 4th (194.825): Bailey Holst earned gold in the all-around competition, posting a 39.425. The score marked a personal record as well.
- 2016: 1st (197.425): Senior Hanna Nordquist notched a perfect 10.00 on the balance beam to earn the event title. Fellow senior Lindsay Mable tied for first for the floor exercise and finished second in the all-around with a final tally of 39.500.
EVENT TITLES APLENTY
- So far in 2026, the 'U' holds 23 event titles. Teryn Crump (9.900) won on vault, Jordyn Lyden (9.925) won on bars and Leah Gonsiorowski (9.900) won on the floor vs. Michigan. Arianna Ostrum and Sophie Swartzmiller (9.875) tied for the floor title vs. Arkansas.
- On Jan. 31 vs. Iowa, Minnesota won four more titles. Arianna Ostrum tallied a career-best 9.900 on vault for her third title of the season, including first on the event. Jordyn Lyden won her second bars title of the year with a 9.900 while Lauren Pearl won on beam with a 9.900, her first event title of the year. Sophie Swartzmiller won her second floor title of 2026 with a 9.900, tying a career-best.
- On Feb. 7 vs. UCLA, Arianna Ostrum (9.950) won on vault and Lauren Pearl (9.925) tied for the beam title. Ostrum won again on vault Feb. 14 at PSU while Ava Stewart (9.950) won on beam. Lyden, Saltzmann and Swartzmiller (9.875) tied for the floor title.
- Feb. 20 at Washington saw Crump (9.900) win on vault and Lyden (9.925) win with the same score on both bars and floor.
- In 2025, Minnesota won 47 event titles. That included 11 vault, 13 bars, 12 beam and 11 floor.
WCGA AND ROAD TO NATIONALS RANKINGS
- After week eight, Minnesota moved to No. 13 (196.603 avg.) in the Road to Nationals rankings. The Gophers rank 15th on vault (49.100 avg.), 17th on bars (49.050 avg.), 9th on beam (49.178 avg.), and 14th on floor (49.275 avg.).
- Minnesota began 2026 ranked No. 15 in the WCGA Preseason poll. They ranked behind only No. 4 UCLA, No. 6 Michigan St. and No. 14 Michigan in the Big Ten. Currently, UCLA is 5th, Michigan is 8th and Michigan State is 11th.
INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
- Nationally, Minnesota has four gymnasts ranked in the top-50 of events this season.
- Jordyn Lyden ranks 32nd on bars (9.866 avg.), 33rd on beam (9.819 avg.) and 38th on the floor (9.872 avg.).
- Teryn Crump ranks 33rd on vault (9.837 avg.), that mark puts her at No. 6 in the Big Ten.
- Sarah Moraw ranks 33rd nationally on beam (9.841 avg.) and 10th in the Big Ten.
- Emma Slevin places 41st nationally on the uneven bars (9.806 avg.).
TOP SCORES PER EVENT
- Minnesota's top vault performance of the year came on Feb. 7 vs. UCLA, as the Gophers totaled 49.250. On bars, their top outing came on Jan. 31 vs. Iowa with a 49.300.
- For the beam team, their 49.500 on Feb. 14 at PSU took the cake. Ava Stewart led the group with her career-high 9.950.
- On the floor, Minnesota tallied a 49.350 Jan. 24 at Nebraska. They've gone 49.300-or-higher in four of the last five meets.
- Minnesota's team score of 197.150 on Jan. 17 was the earliest in a season the Gophers recorded a 197-or-higher since totaling a 197.025 on Jan. 15, 2021.
- The 'U' hit a season-best 197.275 Feb. 7 vs. UCLA. Minnesota went 197 for the fourth time at PSU with a 197.075.
HANSEN ROLLING IN YEAR 12 AT MINNESOTA
- Head coach Jenny Hansen is in her 12th season at the helm of the program. Overall, she holds a 240-134-1 record and a 75-33 mark in the Big Ten. Assistant Coach Kiki Parenteau is in her fifth year as an assistant coach at Minnesota in 2026.
- Five-year Gophers star Mya Hooten (2020-25) was added to the staff as an assistant coach, as was Sam Scherwinski, in the off-season. Scherwinski spent last season as an assistant at Nebraska and will specialize in coaching bars. Hooten will coach the beam team in addition to helping out on floor choreography.
- Under the watch of coach Hansen, the Gophers took home the 2021 Big Ten title, their first conference championships crown since 2006 and the program's sixth ever. They also won the 2016 Big Ten regular season title, the programs third (2013/2014). In 2022,
- Minnesota set a program-record by finishing sixth (197.1125) at the NCAA Championships. They've made 10 NCAA Regionals appearances, including four of the last five regional finals, under her leadership.
