In honor of Black History Month, Gopher Athletics is celebrating those who made us great. Throughout February, GopherSports.com will share short interviews with African-American alumni from almost every Gopher program. In these interviews, former student-athletes reflect on their time at the U of M, provide advice to current Gophers and share what Black History Month means to them personally.

What is it you honestly miss most about the University?
My teammates and being around athletes. The university was an environment where it was clearly about continuously becoming better academically and athletically.
If you could give the current student-athletes any piece of advice, what would it be?
Know how to translate your athletic experience to life experience. Be able to verbalize it. Why it made you better. A better candidate, a better employee, a better entrepreneur, a better parent and better spouse... a better you. Also, find a way to give back. It doesn't matter how, just find a way!
Please share your favorite university or athletic event you've attended since you graduated and what made it so special to you?
Games at TCF Bank Stadium and getting to be in the "M" Club Room. I look forward to attending championship events on the new Track & Field complex.
What are you grateful for?
The sacrifice of Jesus Christ, for my family's love and the support of so many friends.
What does Black History Month mean to you?
It means understanding that this history was not that long ago. Understanding that courage doesn't mean not having fear, it means overcoming it. It means I still have a big role to play in affecting the future, not only my children, but all in this society. It means being thankful always.
