MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - Kyle Okposo and Nick Leddy combined for seven points including Okposo's second career hat trick on Sunday in an 8-1 win for the New York Islanders over the Edmonton Oilers.
Okposo led the way for New York with four points in the win, adding an assist to match his career single-game total for points (four goals for his first career hat trick on Jan. 16, 2015). The forward currently leads the Islanders with 41 points this season (his 26 assists are also a team high) while his 15 goals are tied for third on the squad.
Meanwhile, Leddy picked up three assists in the Islanders victory, setting a new career mark for single-game assists and tying his career-high for points. Leddy leads all Islanders defensemen with 23 points this season while his 20 assists on the year rank third overall on the team.
Boyd Repeats Hat Trick Magic
Gophers alum Travis Boyd helped lead the program to four-straight conference titles for the first time in school history, and now he's bringing the same success to the Hershey Bears in the AHL.
The forward recorded his first career hat trick in a 5-1 over Lehigh Valley on Saturday and currently ranks second on the team with 33 points (13 goals, 20 assists) in 49 games. His production ranks fourth overall among AHL rookies this year.
An interesting note on Boyd's first pro hat trick - the performance came 364 days after his first college hat trick. As a senior for the Gophers last year, Boyd totaled four points (three goals, one assist) including the game-winning goal in a 6-2 Minnesota win over Ohio State at Mariucci Arena.
