Gophers Head to Big Ten Championships

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team will travel to Lincoln, Neb. this Saturday to compete in the Devaney Center on Nebraska's campus for the Big Ten Championships. Action is set to begin at 4:05 p.m. for the evening session which will feature Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska and Michigan State. Iowa, Maryland, Rutgers and Illinois will compete in the morning session at 11:05 a.m. CT.

The All-Conference teams are determined by regional qualifying scores, while the team's finish at the Big Five Qualifier determined the order of appearance in the Championships.

Adult General Admission costs $7. Youth/Senior General Admission (Youth ages 7-18, Senior ages 60 and up) costs $5. Children 6 years and younger costs $1.
LAST TIME OUT/THE OPPONENTS
The Gophers finished the regular-season last weekend with a 9-0 Big Ten record and clinched the regular-season conference title, winning the Big Five qualifying meet with a score of 197.450. The season-high score is the second highest in program history.
Senior Hanna Nordquist collected the Balance Beam title after scoring a perfect 10.000. Her performance also earned her back-to-back Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week.
The Gophers saw Penn State and Michigan last week at the Big Five meet. Minnesota came out on top with senior Hanna Nordquist claiming an event title on Balance Beam with a perfect 10. The Nittany Lions places second with a 197.125 followed by Michigan in third with a 196.875.
Ohio State hosted the Maroon and Gold earlier this season. Minnesota collected their fourth straight victory, winning 196.075-194.900, on their way to an undefeated conference record. Sophomore Abby DeMuse won an individual title on Vault, scoring 9.850. Junior Bailie Holst place first on Uneven Bars with a program record 9.975. Senior Lindsay Mable collected titles on Balance Beam (9.900).
Illinois traveled to Minneapolis the following week and fell to the Gophers, 195.775-195.000. Mable shared top honors on Vault with junior Bailey Abernathy, each scoring 9.800. The senior also claimed titles on Uneven Bars (9.875), Balance Beam (9.950), Floor (9.925) and All-Around (39.550).
Nebraska hosted Minnesota earlier this season in a Rumble N' Tumble meet where the Maroon and Gold tallied their sixth straight victory, 196.300-196.100. Mable and Holst tied for first place on Uneven Bars, each with a 9.875, with the senior also claiming a title on Balance Beam.
Iowa, Maryland, Michigan State and Rutgers will be competing at 11 a.m. CT.
GOPHERS IN THE RANKINGS
The national rankings have the Maroon and Gold tied with Stanford at No. 12 in the country on Vault with a team average of 48.968 and a high of 49.275. On Floor, the team is No. 15 (49.111 avg., 49.375 high), No. 14 on Beam (49.014 avg., 49.675 high) and with an average score of 48.952 and a high of 49.425, Minnesota is No. 14 on the Uneven Bars.
The North Central Region rankings have Minnesota at. No. 3 behind Utah and Denver, respectively.
The Maroon and Gold is third in the Big Ten score-wise behind Michigan and Nebraska. The Wolverines have an average score of 196.900 and a high of 197.425. The Cornhuskers have an average of 196.135 and a high of 197.350 while the Gophers have notched 196.045 and a high of 197.425.
BIG TEN ALL-CONFERENCE
On Monday, five University of Minnesota gymnasts were named to the All-Big Ten teams. Mable, Nordquist and Holst all were named to the First Team while senior Madeline Hanley and sophomore Ciara Gardner earned Second Team nods.

LOOKING AHEAD
On Monday, the Maroon and Gold will watch the NCAA Selection Show which will solidify the fate of the team's participation in the NCAA Regionals which will be hosted at the Sports Pavilion on April 2. The NCAA Nationals will be held in Fort Worth, Texas from April 15-16.
