Donnelly Named B1G Field Athlete of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - Sean Donnelly, who recorded one of the world's best hammer throws of the year and set a new school record in his University of Minnesota debut last weekend, has been tabbed the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week.
The Willoughby, Ohio native won the hammer throw at the Baldy Castillo Invitational with a throw of 74.35 meters (243-11 ft.) - a performance that ranks first in the NCAA, first in the U.S. and ninth in the world this year.
A four-time NCAA Division III national champion and an eight-time Division III All-American at Mount Union, Donnelly kicked off his final season of outdoor eligibility by shattering the University of Minnesota school record by more than five meters. His mark surpasses current Gophers thrower Gian Ferretti's previous school record of 68.94 meters (226-02 ft.), set at last year's Baldy Castillo Invitational last year in Ferretti's outdoor debut for the Gophers.
Donnelly's performance over the weekend snapped a Baldy Castillo Invitational record of 69.24 meters (227-02 ft.) that has stood since 1998.
