Gophers Close Weekend With a Statement Victory

COLORADO SPRINGS - The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team placed first ahead of Denver and Air Force in the final meet of the regular-season, scoring a season-high 197.225.
Seniors Lindsay Mable and Hanna Nordquist and junior Bailie Holst, claimed individual titles for the Gophers.
"I think the team was very relaxed today and went in with the mindset of just doing what we do everyday in practice," said head coach Jenny Hansen. "No more, no less. They also felt like they had something to prove after Friday night."
Minnesota started the afternoon on Balance Beam, where Nordquist placed first with a 9.950, the second highest score in school history. Nina McGee and Julia Ross of Denver claimed second and third with a 9.925 and a 9.875, respectively. Senior Madeline Hanley scored a 9.850 and sophomores Abby DeMuse and Ciara Gardner each scored a 9.825.
The Gophers moved to Floor for the second rotation of the meet. McGee claimed first for Denver, earning a 9.975. Mable and Pioneer Nikole Addison tied for second with identical marks of 9.925. Gardner claimed the second highest score for the Maroon and Gold, scoring a 9.875 followed by sophomores Kaitlin Rahon and Bailey Abernathy, who each scored a 9.850.
Through two rotations, Minnesota led with a score of 98.525.
On the third rotation of the night, Vault, Mable claimed first place with a 9.950. Abernathy finished closely behind her with a 9.900, tying Ross for second place. Gardner and DeMuse each finished with a 9.800.
Minnesota completed their victory with an excellent performance on Uneven Bars. Holst earned the event title, scoring a 9.950, the second highest score in program history. Mable finished second with a 9.925 followed by Hanely who finished tied for third with McGee.
"This was exactly what the team needed," said Hansen. "We put together four great events at the right time of the year. We need to carry this momentum with us into the Big Ten Qualifier next weekend into the post season."
LOOKING AHEAD
Closing this two-meet weekend in Colorado, next weekend the Maroon and Gold will head to the Big Ten Qualifier at Penn State. Action is set to begin at noon.
