The No. 45 University of Minnesota Gophers pulled out a win against the Iowa State Cyclones 5-2 for their second win of the weekend. They move to 9-4 on the season.
"Iowa State's a little bit like [Buffalo], just at a higher level. " head coach Chuck Merzbacher said. "It was a really good win. We beat a 9-1 (overall) team 5-2. You know, I'll take that win."
Mehvish Safdar and Caitlyn Merzbacher finished their doubles match first with a 6-1 win. The duo is 7-2 together this season. Paula Rincon-Otero and Annemarie Emme finished next, falling to their Iowa State opponents in the No. 1 spot.
Caroline Ryba and Julia Courter once again came through in the clutch. They sealed the doubles point in the No. 2 spot with a 6-4 victory.
Jessika Mozia finished her singles match with a loss in the No. 4 spot to Galvis (6-1, 6-3), but soon after, Rincon-Otero brought the second overall point to the Gophers with her win against Iowa State's Kuuttila in the No. 3 spot. She is 12-6 on the year.
Ryba brought in a win against Budai in the No. 1 spot (6-2, 6-3) and shortly after, Camila Vargas-Gomez followed suit with a win against Bonadonna (6-1, 6-3), securing the Gopher victory. Courter finished her match against Buss with another win for the Gophers.
After a long battle that went into a third set, Emme fell to Iowa State's Espindola (6-0, 3-6, 4-6).
The Gophers will take on San Diego State on March 14 for their final nonconference game of the year.
