Winfield Selected MLB All-Star Game Spokesperson

Former Minnesota baseball and San Diego Padres standout Dave Winfield was selected to be a spokesperson for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game this upcoming summer, announced by the MLB on Thursday.
Winfield will share the role with former San Diego Padres closer Trevor Hoffman. Together, the duo will lead the professional organization’s effort to help generate public awareness and excitement for the Midsummer Classic and its surrounding events in downtown San Diego, Calif.
Winfield is scheduled to participate in the All-Star Week and make a plethora of appearances, including at the MLB All-Star FanFest, Petco Park events and community projects.
In 1973, Winfield started his career in the majors in San Diego. That career lasted 22 years, in which he was tabbed as an All-Star 12 times. Winfield’s No. 31 was retired in 2001 by the Padres and was the third player ever to have his number retired by the club.
Winfield was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001 and was the first Padre ever to be enshrined in Cooperstown.
All-Star festivities are set to begin on July 8. The 2016 All-Star Game with round out the week on July 12.
