Gophers Win Six Titles

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Kate Shelerud and Allie Heifort led the Golden Gophers with event titles at the Hamline Invitational at HU's Klas Field on Sunday. Three Gophers also combined for four event crowns while competing unattached at the meet.
Shelerud (2:13.54), Haley Johnson (2:13.58), and Kaila Urick (2:13.60) took the top three places in the 800-meter run.
Allie Heifort won the hammer throw with a mark of 51.21m (168-00), and Temi Ogunrinde finished as runner-up at 48.53m (159-03). Heifort also placed third in the shot put (11.66m, 38-03.25).
Liz Berkholtz took third in the 5,000-meter run in 16:58.24, finishing as the top collegiate runner behind Team USA Minnesota runners Meghan Peyton (16:29.45) and Katy Moen (16:36.80).
Kelly Flynn earned a runner-up finish in the long jump at 5.16m (16-11.25) in her outdoor debut.
Competing unattached, three Gophers won four event titles: Sophia Anderson (200-meter dash, 25.09 seconds; 400-meter dash, 57.20 seconds), Erin Huls (400-meter hurdles, 1:01.73), and Shay Nielsen (shot put, 13.25m, 43-05.75). Sam Prouty (1,500-meter run, 4:48.04) and Rachel Schow (100-meter hurdles, 14.35 ) earned runner-up finishes as well.
Minnesota also competed at the UCLA Legends Invitational this weekend where Titania Markland won the 800-meter run and Agnes Esser won the hammer throw, while Kimberly Golding set a new Minnesota program record in the 100-meter hurdles.
Up next for the Gophers is the Sun Angel Invitational hosted by Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz., this Friday and Saturday.
