Lindgren Named to U.S. U-18 Roster

MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - Gopher Hockey signed prospect Ryan Lindgren will compete with the U.S. Men's National Under-18 Team later this month at the 2016 IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championships, April 14-24, in Grand Forks, N.D.

The Minneapolis, Minn., native was among the 22 players named to the U.S. squad on Tuesday afternoon.

Currently a defenseman with the U.S. National Development Team Program, Lindgren has 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in 25 USHL games and 20 points (four goals, 16 assists) in 52 overall games this season.

The United States is featured in Group A along with Latvia, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland and will play its round-robin portion of the schedule at Ralph Engelstad Arena. Group B consists of Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland and Slovakia. The U.S. opens play with pre-tournament games against Finland (7 p.m. CT on Friday, April 8) and Denmark (3 p.m. CT on Sunday, April 10).

The U.S. seeks its third-straight gold medal in the event after capturing the tournament title last year in Zug and Lucerne, Switzerland. Team USA has earned 12-straight medals, including gold in six of the past seven tournaments. Overall, the U.S. boasts 14 medals at the IIHF U18 Men's World Championship, the most of any country.

The NHL Network will televise all U.S. games at the tournament (broadcast schedule announced next week) while FASTHockey.com will stream all games live.
