Gophers Pick Up 4x100 Title at ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. (GopherSports.com) - The University of Minnesota men's track & field program closed out the weekend with 4x100 meter relay on Saturday at the Sun Angel Classic along with some of the fastest times on the track in school history.
After Sean Donnelly picked up his third-straight hammer throw win on Friday, the 4x100 meter relay team of Jordan Charles, Brad Neumann, Gemechu Godi and Trevor Yedoni clocked a 40.29 to beat UC San Diego's relay squad for the event title. Saturday's winning time ranks fifth all-time at Minnesota while the mark is just 0.34 seconds off the school record from 2000. The performance is the fastest 4x100 meter relay by the Maroon & Gold since 2012.
Neumann also picked up a fifth-place showing in the 200 meters, coming across the line at 21.34. Godi finished ninth in the 100 meters at 10.66 while Charles added a ninth-place finish his own in the triple jump at 14.53 meters (47-08.00 ft.).
Meanwhile, Goaner Deng placed second in the premiere 800 meter competition. The senior captain clocked a 1:46.81 - a new personal record that currently ranks sixth in the nation and moves Deng up to third all-time at Minnesota. Mitch Hechsel came in fifth for the Gophers at 1:48.30 - also a personal best that moves Hechsel into the program's top-10 list at eighth.
The Gophers also put two competitors in the top 10 of the high jump with Nick Bachinski finishing tied for third at 2.05 meters (6-08.75 ft.) and Ryan Lockard coming in eighth at the same height in a jump off.
In the premiere discus competition, Sam Elsner picked up a sixth-place finish with his performance of 56.21 meters (184-05 ft.). Bryan Bjerk finished fourth in the invitational discus competition at 50.41 meters (165-05 ft.) while Viktor Stelter came in 14th at 45.81 meters (150-03 ft.). Luca Wieland finished eighth in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal record of 14.67 and also added a ninth-place finish in the long jump at 6.94 meters (22-09.25 ft.). Trevor Yedoni placed 16th in the long jump.
