MINNEAPOLIS - As the Golden Gophers head to Lincoln, Neb., for the 2016 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championship, GopherSports.com caught up with director of women's track & field and cross country Matt Bingle for a preview of the meet.

Gopher Sports: What are the team's goals for the weekend?

Matt Bingle: Our team goal is always to be in the top three, and this meet is no different. Last year, we were in the top three at this meet, and that was good. This year, I feel like that's a reasonable goal once again. I expect it to come down to a four or five team race for those top spots, depending on injuries and entries.

GS: How do you feel about the team's preparation?

MB: I'm really excited about the whole group we have going this weekend. We have a strong team. We have people all across the board who have the opportunity to do some cool things. I'm really, genuinely excited for everybody. They just have to do what they have been doing. I think they're where they need to be. We have a good team atmosphere with good attitudes and a lot of fun.

GS: What are your expectations for the seniors?

MB: I'm excited for them. They've done a really good job of staying engaged all season, probably the best I've seen out of fifth and fourth-year kids. They've done really well, and the majority of them have set personal records. That's a tribute to them. They've done a good job of having fun and enjoying their team. I'm very happy and proud of them. From September to now, they've done a good job staying engaged, being good leaders, and just being themselves.

The 2016 Big Ten Championship begins Friday and continues through Sunday at Ed Weir Stadium hosted by the University of Nebraska.
