Gophers Garner 11 Titles at St. Thomas

SAINT PAUL, Minn. (GopherSports.com) - The University of Minnesota men's track & field program locked up 11 individual titles on Wednesday evening at St Thomas' Tommie Twilight.
The Gophers picked up the top four finishes in the 5,000 meters including Matt Welch's winning time of 14:33.36. Charlie Lawrence finished second at 14:37.72 while unattached freshmen Connor Olson (14:41.94) and Joey Duerr (14:46.79) finished third and fourth, respectively.
All-American Luca Wieland won a jump off in the high jump at 2.03 meters (6-08.00 ft.) with Gemechu Godi picking up a win in the 200 meters with a time of 21.63.
The Gophers added 1-2-3 finishes in both the 800 meters and the 400-meter hurdles at St. Thomas on Wednesday. Matt Rosen led the 800 meters at 1:52.79 while unattached freshman Josh Tracy finished second at 1:54.79 with Josh Tracy coming in third at 1:59.01. Rashawn Fountain won the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 52.83 followed by unattached freshman Sam Lundquist in second at 55.37 and Matt Baker in third at 56.36.
James Travis won the triple jump at 14.19 meters (46-06.75 ft.) while Glen Harold added a win in the pole vault at 4.80 meters (15-09.00 ft.). Unattached freshman Jacob Buller came in third at 3.75 meters (12-03.50 ft.).
Unattached freshman Jonathan Webb paced a trio of Gophers in the top-four of the 100 meters with a win, running 10.44 for a personal record and Minnesota's fastest 100 meters of the year. Quinton Coleman finished third at 10.81 while Trevor Yedoni came in fourth at 10.91.
Webb added a second title for the night by leading the 400 meters field at 49.01 while unattached freshman Alex Kelner finished fourth at 51.45.
The Gophers also picked up an impressive performance from unattached freshman Eric Walker in the 110-meter hurdles. Walker won the event with a personal record of 14.61 - also Minnesota's fastest time in the event this season. Ben Holcomb finished third at 15.06.
Unattached freshman Sammie Houston led the long jump competition with his personal record of 7.12 meters (23-04.50 ft.). Buller and fellow newcomer Jonathan Johnson finished third and sixth, respectively, while Andrew Ajaluwa and Ben Holcomb came in seventh and eighth, respectively.
