Houlihan Earns Second Consecutive B1G Honor

For the second straight week Maddie Houlihan has racked up a Big Ten Freshman of the Week award, the conference announced Monday.
Houlihan helped lead the Gophers to a sweep over Iowa hitting .769 (10-for-13) with four RBI and seven runs scored this weekend. She opened the weekend with a 5-5 performance on the first night of play with four singles and a home run. She had two more hits in a row the next day to give her a streak of 12 straight hits. She also had a streak of four straight games with a home run.
She recorded a 1.231 slugging percentage in the series and a perfect fielding percentage as she had 19 putouts at first base.
In the past two weekends Houlihan has recorded a .800 (16-20) with four doubles and four home runs for 12 RBI and a slugging percentage of 1.600. She finishes the regular season with the highest B1G average on the team (.464) with seven doubles and five homers.
Houlihan has moved up to second on the team with a .371 overall on the season adding 11 doubles and 11 home runs. She has won four B1G Freshman of the Week plaudits.
The Gophers finish the regular season 38-12 overall and 19-3 in the Big Ten. They will be the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament this coming weekend held at Penn State. They play Friday at 1:30 p.m. against the winner of Illinois and Michigan State.
