EUGENE, Ore. - Through the first four events in the NCAA heptathlon, University of Minnesota senior Jess Lehman is in 11th place with 3,435 points. With the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200-meter dash complete, the heptathlon resumes Saturday at Hayward Field.
Lehman began the day with a career-best time of 14.22 seconds to place 19th in the heptathlon 100m hurdles. She followed up with a mark of 1.72m (5-07.75) to tie for eighth in high jump and moved into 13th place overall.
The shot put saw Lehman record a season-best throw of 13.42m (44-00.50) on her second attempt to secure third place in the event and climb into ninth in the heptathlon.
Day one of the heptathlon wrapped up with the 200m dash, where Lehman finished fourth in her heat in 25.36 seconds. She placed 19th overall to end day one in 11th place.
The two-time defending Big Ten Conference heptathlon champion, Lehman looks to improve on her fifth-place finish in last year's NCAA heptathlon.
The heptathlon concludes with long jump, javelin, and the 800m Saturday. Fellow Gophers Heta Tuuri (high jump), Agnes Esser (discus), and Shanique Wright (triple jump) are also slated to compete Saturday at the NCAA Championship.
