Wright Advances to Triple Jump Final

BYDGOSZCZ, Poland - Shanique Wright has advanced to the triple jump final at the IAAF World U20 Championships. The rising sophomore Gopher is representing her native Jamaica at the world junior championship in Bydgoszcz, Poland, this week.

Wright competed in the triple jump qualifying round early Friday morning and placed 11th with a jump of 12.74m (41-09.75) on her third jump. The top 12 competitors move on to the final, scheduled for 3:40 a.m. CT Saturday morning (10:40 a.m. local time). Wright will jump ninth in the final.

The Mandeville, Jamaica, native earned her place on Jamaica's team for the world championships earlier this summer after finishing as triple jump runner-up in the 2016 JAAA National Junior Championships with a jump of 12.83m (42-01.25).

Wright finished her first collegiate season by placing 12th in the triple jump at the NCAA Championships (12.99m, 42-07.50). She set a personal record when she jumped 13.03m (42-09.00) at the NCAA West Prelim, a mark that ranks third among all-time Gopher triple jumpers.
