MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - Eight competitors for the Minnesota men's track & field program earned 2016 USTFCCCA All-Academic honors while the Gophers squad was tabbed as a 2016 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced this week.

Representing the Gophers were Aaron Bartnik, Gian Ferretti, Luca Wieland, Jordan Charles, Sean Donnelly, Ryan Lockard, Shane Streich and Derek Wiebke. Ferretti, Wieland, Donnelly and Lockard all earned All-America honors for the Maroon & Gold during the 2016 campaign.

Minnesota's eight honorees ranked tied for second in the Big Ten with Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana, behind only Nebraska with 13.

As a program, the Maroon & Gold boasted a 3.06 cumulative GPA as one of 122 men's programs honored as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic individual award, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards: For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
