Alum Cheever Takes 24th at U.S. Olympic Trials

MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota alum Jamie Cheever ('09) recorded a time of 10:01.46 to finish eighth in her heat and 24th overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., on Monday.

A two-time All-American for the Gophers, Cheever still ranks third in Minnesota program history with a college-best time of 10:11.33 in the 3,000m steeplechase set in 2008.

Olympic qualifying competition continues for the Gophers at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Thursday with Nicolle Murphy (javelin qualifying round) and Minnesota alumni Gabriele Grunewald (1,500m and 5,000m first rounds) and Heather Kampf (1,500m first round). Jess Lehman begins heptathlon action on Saturday, and Liz Podominck took fourth in the discus.

In addition, Agnes Esser is set to compete in the discus and hammer throw at the Canadian Championships and Rio Selection Trials on Thursday and Friday.
