Summer is nearing an end and soon our Gophers will be back on campus. Junior infielder Danielle Parlich stayed busy back home in Arizona. We caught up with some of her adventures in this summer update!

Gopher Sports: First off how has your summer been going?

Danielle Parlich: My summer has been going well! It has been pretty busy with work and summer school but it still has been really nice being home. It has also been nice to hang out with both friends and family this summer and just get a chance to relax at home.

GS: You and your sister did some hiking. What was that experience like? What was the coolest thing you saw?

DP: Being in Arizona it gives you a lot of different opportunities for hiking and each summer my sister and I make it are goal to go to a couple different trails. We both love going hiking not only because it is good exercise, but also because it is pretty challenging. Also it is an amazing feeling when you are hiking in the middle of nowhere and no matter where you look, there is no civilization for miles-you are truly just in nature. That is by far my favorite part about hiking which is why I continue to do it and I also like to try out new places.

So overall my experience was awesome. My sister and I hiked to three new places this summer. The three places we hiked to were Devil's bridge, Cathedral Rock, and Fremont Saddle (Weaver's Needle). All three of these places were very pretty and took a minimum of an hour to hike but were definitely worth it. Out of these new places my favorite was Fremont Saddle because we had to hike up inbetween these two mountains. We went early enough where we got to see the sun rise over the mountain, and it was very quiet going up the hike because my sister and I were the only ones on the trail.

GS: You also got to work at a sports camp. What kind of things did you do? What was your favorite part about being a camp counselor?

DP: For the sports camp, I was a camp counselor for kids ages from 6-12 and at the camp we would just play all different games and sports. We would play tennis, volleyball, dodgeball, basketball and many other fun games. My favorite part about being the camp counselor was when I would play the games with the kids and get to mess around with them. They were all great and it was just fun to laugh and joke with them.

GS: What are you most excited for as you head into your junior season? What goals do you have for yourself?

DP: Heading into my junior year I am excited for a lot of things. Off the field, I am excited to now be in all classes that are for my major and minors and to be done taking general education classes. As for on the field, there isn't anything specific that comes to mind at this moment. I am more so just excited to get back into the swing of things and get practicing and preparing for season!

GS: Being an upperclassman with nine newcomers coming in how are you looking to step into a leadership role?

DP: For stepping into a leadership role, my goal is to make sure that all the newcomers are comfortable and that if they need help with anything or have any questions, I will be there for them and help them. As for goals, my personal goal is to continue to work hard and to try and improve my hitting for this upcoming season. For the team goal, I would love to win another Big Ten Championship and also would love to go all the way to the College World Series.

GS: Favorite app on your phone?

DP: My favorite app is Pinterest because there is so much to see and explore on it.

GS: Best place on campus?

DP: My favorite place on campus is Dinkytown because it has so many food places where you can sit down to eat and just relax.

GS: Funniest teammate?

DP: My funniest teammate was Kayla Wenner. She is hysterical and genuinely funny.

GS: Teammate with the best dance moves?

DP: Teammate with the best dance moves is really hard! I don't know about this last year but my freshman year Tyler Walker by far had the best dance moves.

GS: Stuck on an island for the rest of your life but could watch any one movie. What do you choose?

DP: If I could only have one movie I don't know if I could actually decide because I am a huge movie fanatic and love so many different genres! But if I had to choose one, I would probably say 10 things I Hate About You because I think its a funny movie that is funny no matter how times I watch.
