Aug. 29, 2016 The University of Minnesota today announced the hire of Julie Manning as its new executive associate athletics director and senior woman administrator for Gopher Athletics. Manning brings more than 25 years of administrative and coaching experience with Big 12 and Pac-12 schools to her role at the U of M.

"Julie has an incredible background, with extensive experience as an athletics administrator and a head coach at the Power 5 conference level," said director of athletics Mark Coyle. "Her track record of focusing on equity, compliance and student-athlete development is the perfect fit for this critical leadership position."

Manning joins the athletics department's staff from the University of Wyoming, where she has served as the senior associate athletics director of sports administration and the senior woman administrator for the past 2.5 years. While at Wyoming, Manning oversaw the department's coordination with Title IX, while also monitoring and developing department-wide initiatives tied to diversity, inclusion and student-athlete development. She chaired the department's strategic planning group and represented Wyoming at Mountain West Conference and NCAA meetings. She also served on several conference-level committees.

Prior to her time with Wyoming, Manning spent nine years at the University of Colorado, where she spent the last 7.5 years as an associate athletics director for compliance, financial aid and administration, and three months during 2013 as the interim senior woman administrator. Manning directly oversaw six sport programs in addition to responsibilities as the department's Title IX coordinator and the chair of the department's Gender Equity Committee. She also managed human resources and compliance. While working with compliance, Manning oversaw all areas of Colorado's comprehensive compliance program.

She began her career in athletics at Iowa State University, where she worked for nearly 20 years as the school's head women's golf coach. During her coaching career, Manning's student-athletes earned 13 Academic All-America honors and maintained a graduation rate of 98 percent. Her work as a coach earned her induction into the National Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame in January 2000.

Manning graduated from Iowa State in 1983 with a degree in Physical Education with a Coaching endorsement. During her undergraduate career she played on the Iowa State women's golf team for three years. She also studied Sports Management as a graduate student at Iowa State.

Manning's first official day with Gopher Athletics is September 12.
