MINNEAPOLIS - Junior Heather Ciskowski earned her best collegiate tournament finish, leading the way for the Minnesota women's golf team on Tuesday as the fourth annual Minnesota Invitational drew to a close at the Minikahda Club.
Ciskowski, who started the day among a four-way tie in first place, ended the tournament tied for third place at 1-over-par (74-69-74--217), two shots behind co-medalists Isabelle Johansson and Haylee Harford of Kentucky and Furman, respectively. Ciskowski's previous best tournament finish was 18th at the Mercedes-Benz Championships last season.
Another career best finish came from freshman Muyu Wu, who reached her first top-20 after a tie for 13th place at 7-over-par (77-73-73--223). Junior Emie Peronnin tied for 38th place (78-75-78--231) at 15-over-par, while junior Sabrine Garrison tied for 51st (77-77-82--236, +20). Sophomores Maggie Heggerston (80-81-82--243, +27) and Niamh Ward (83-89-78--250, +34) placed 57th and 60th, respectively, the latter as an individual competitor.
"It's fun to host the first tournament of the season at home, and obviously I was impressed with how Heather and Muyu played," said head coach Michele Redman. "We've got some work to do, but I'm looking forward to a good season."
The Gophers (306-294-293--907) finished the tournament in ninth place, while Furman and Purdue shared the team title at 18-over-par 882.
Minnesota returns to action in two weeks, traveling to South Carolina for the Lady Paladin Invitational, hosted by Furman from September 23-25.
