Gophers Open Play at Lady Paladin

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The University of Minnesota women's golf team opened play in the Lady Paladin Invitational on Friday, its second tournament of the season. The first round at Furman University Golf Club saw the Gophers sitting in 18th after 18 holes of play.

Junior Sabrine Garrison is leading the way for Minnesota, finishing the first round with a 3-over-par 75 to tie for 48th place. One stroke behind is sophomore Maggie Heggerston, whose 4-over-par 76 is tied for 58th. Senior Emie Peronnin and junior Heather Ciskowski each carded a 77 in the opening round to tie for 71st. Rounding out the Gopher lineup is sophomore Muyu Wu, who is tied for 99th with a score of 81.

Individual competitor Niamh Ward is tied for 80th, as the sophomore scored a six-over-par 78 in the opening round.

Host Furman has the first-round lead at 7-under-par 281, while Texas's Emilie Hoffman is leading the field after shooting 7-under-par 65.

The Lady Paladin Invitational continues Saturday, with second-round tee times scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. ET.
