Gophers in the Polls: September 28

The Minnesota Golden Gophers continue to make their mark among the top-ranked teams in multiple sports. Below is a summary of each team, and tickets for all upcoming home events are available by visiting mygophersports.com.
Volleyball - #2
Last Week: The Gophers (10-1) continued their torrid start to the season, running their win streak to nine after home wins over Maryland and Ohio State in the opening week of Big Ten play. Senior outside hitter Sarah Wilhite was selected the conference player of the week, her second honor of the year.
This Week: Minnesota travels to Indiana (Sept. 30) and Purdue (Oct. 2) this weekend. Friday's match against the Hoosiers will be at 6 p.m. CT and on BTN Plus, while Sunday's contest against Purdue is set for 12:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
Women's Hockey - #2
Last Week: Thanks to three third-period goals, the Gophers were victorious in their lone preseason exhibition on Friday night at Ridder Arena, defeating the Minnesota Whitecaps, 5-4. Dani Cameranesi, Megan Wolfe, and Kippin Keller led the Gophers with two points each on one goal and one assist.
This Week: Minnesota officially opens up the 2016-17 season by hosting Lindenwood at home at 7:07 p.m. CT Friday, Sept. 30 and 2:07 p.m. CT Saturday, Oct. 1. The Gophers will hold a banner-raising ceremony to celebrate the program's 2016 NCAA national championship prior to Friday's season-opener.
Soccer - #8
Last Week: The Gophers earned their third-straight shutout in conference play and picked up road victories over Indiana (3-0) and Purdue (2-0). Senior Tarah Hobbs was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week.
This Week: The Gophers host Wisconsin (Oct. 1) this weekend at the Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. Saturday's match against the Badgers is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT.
Men's Hockey - #13
Preseason: The three-time defending Big Ten champion Gopher Hockey program has been selected as the conference favorite in the 2016-17 Big Ten hockey preseason coaches' poll while Minnesota also led the league with four players on the Big Ten Watch List.
Coming Up: Minnesota opens the 2016-17 season on Oct. 7 against Alaska Anchorage and plays Alaska on Oct. 9 (both games will be played at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, Alaska).
Also Receiving Votes: The Gopher men's and women's cross country teams and football teams are also receiving top-25 votes in their respective polls.
