Meet Preview: Windy City Invitational

The No. 4 University of Minnesota men's gymnastics team will open the 2017 competition season at the 47th annual Windy City Invitational this Saturday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The meet will serve as an early test for the Gophers with four Big Ten Conference teams in attendance, along with host University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).
Meet Rewind
In 2016, Minnesota finished third of six teams with a team score of 424.500. Tristan Duran earned gold on high bar with a 15.400, and Zach Liebler took home the floor event title with a 15.650.
In The Ranks & On The Watch
The Gophers are ranked No. 4 in the preseason coaches poll by the College Gymnastics Association (CGA). Minnesota also picked up a No. 2 ranking among Big Ten Conference teams as Liebler and Duran were named to the Big Ten Men's Gymnasts to Watch List.
Trio of Leadership
The Gophers are led by captains Joel Gagnon, Liebler and Alex Wittenberg this season. With 18 of 20 student-athletes returning, Minnesota's team culture is closer than ever.
Looking Ahead
Minnesota will host Air Force on Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Sports Pavilion. The first rotation is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available at mygophersports.com.
