Meet Preview: Gophers Travel to Michigan State

The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team will be on the road for the second-straight weekend as they travel to East Lansing, Mich. for a meet against the Michigan State Spartans on Friday, Jan. 20 at 6:00 p.m. Central.
Scouting The Spartans
Michigan State opened Big Ten competition with a loss to No. 22 Iowa on the road, and enter the weekend with an average team score of 194.025. Uneven bars is Michigan State's strongest event through the first two weeks of the season. The team's bars average score of 48.950 has them ranked at No. 16. The Gophers have an edge over the Spartans in every other event this season. Last year, Minnesota topped Michigan State with a score of 195.675-195.275.
Last Time Out
After a tough first rotation on uneven bars, Minnesota rallied to take home wins over Arizona, Maryland and Alaska Anchorage. The Gophers won four event titles en route to their 194.900. Ciara Gardner earned gold in the all-around competition (39.175), and was co-champion with teammate Kaitlin Rahon on beam (9.875). Freshman Paige Williams placed first on vault with a (9.875) and Bailey Abernathy topped the floor competition for the second-straight week (9.875). In total, there were ten personal records broken, including seven from non-freshmen.
