South Dakota's Emily Brigham won the pole vault, clearing 3.96m (12-11.75) on her first attempt while Gilson made the height on her second jump.
Minnesota went three-four-five, unofficially, in the pentathlon as Gopher rookies Hannah Arason (3,329) and Ashley Ramacher (3,217) took third and fourth while competing unattached, finishing just ahead of redshirt freshman Kayla Nelson (3,184) in fifth. Arason's score was a collegiate-best mark. Meanwhile, South Dakota's Shanice Cannigan won the pentathlon title with 3,832 points.
Nelson's pentathlon showing included recording a personal-best mark in the long jump at 5.11m (16-09.25) to finish fourth. Her highest finish in the pentathlon was a third-place showing in the shot put at 9.85m (32-03.75). Nelson clocked a time of 2:30.50 in the 800m for fifth and placed eighth in both the 60m hurdles (9.77) and the high jump (1.51m, 4-11.50).
Arason set collegiate-best marks in two pentathlon events, finishing third in high jump at 1.66m (5-05.25) and fourth in the 800m (2:30.45). She was the pentathlon shot put runner-up at 9.99m (32-09.50), took sixth in long jump (5.00m, 16-05.00), and was ninth in the 60m hurdles (9.81) en route to her career-best score of 3,329.
Ramacher also set two collegiate-best marks in her second career pentathlon appearance. She was fifth with a long jump PR of 5.04m (16-06.50) and tied her career best in the shot put at 8.42m (27-07.50) for eighth. She tied for fourth in the pentathlon high jump (1.60m, 5-03.00), took fifth in the 60m hurdles (9.30), and was seventh in the 800m (2:34.64).
