Abernathy, Williams Earn B1G Accolades

Bailey Abernathy (Denver, Colo.) was named Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week and Paige Williams (Wylie, Texas) was selected as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, announced today by the league office.

Abernathy earned scores of 9.925 on vault and floor to win both events and notch two personal records. This is the second time this season Abernathy has been named Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week.

Williams earned two top five finishes against Ohio State. She tied for fifth place on vault with a 9.850 and finished fourth on floor with a career best of 9.875. Minnesota's last Big Ten Freshman of the Week was Lindsay Mable on March 18, 2013.

After a big win over Ohio State (196.800-196.450), the Gophers will be back on the road as the team heads to Champaign, Ill. to face the Fighting Illini. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 4 with the first rotation at 4:00 p.m.
