Gophers Finish 11th at MacKenzie Invitational

Fairfax, Calif--Peter Jones took home his second straight top-10 finish as the Gophers competed in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational. The team finished 11th overall, with a 2-over-par score of 854.
Jones finished in a tie for 10th place, carding a 206, good for 7 under, his best career finish to par. He was assisted by a 4-under 67 and a 2-under 69 on the first day of the tournament before a 70 on Tuesday. Jones finished the tournament with 17 birdies, tied for fourth in a field of 88. This finish comes on the heels of his tie for sixth at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate.
Angus Flanagan placed second on the team and tied for 46th overall with a 3-over score of 216, including a 2-under-par 69 on the final day. Flanagan's third round performance was the best on the Gophers and allowed him to climb up from 62nd at the end of the second round. This is his third collegiate tournament appearance.
Evan Long and Rúnar Arnorsson both carded a 5-over 218, putting them in a tie for 53rd place. Arnorsson improved through each round, posting scores of 74, 73 and 71 over three rounds. Long made his debut on the scoring roster for the Gophers.
Riley Johnson finished the tournament in a tie for 72nd with a 222 (+9). Johnson also improved over the course of the tournament, recording rounds of 76, 74 and 72.
Host California won the tournament with a 41-under 811. KK Limbhasut, also of California, finished first in the individual field, carding an impressive 15-under 198.
Minnesota's next tournament will be the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas, taking place Oct. 23-24.
