Werking Leads Gophers at Neubauer Invite

ETTRICK, Wis. - Sarah Werking, Ally Smith, and Paige Peschel led the Maroon & Gold as members of the Golden Gopher women's cross country team raced at the Tori Neubauer Invitational hosted by UW-La Crosse at Whitetail Golf Course in Ettrick, Wis., Saturday morning.
Werking placed 14th overall in a season-best 6K time of 22:41.67. Ally Smith (22:55.19) also earned a top-20 showing in 20th place with a season-best mark. Paige Peschel (season-best 23:08.46) and Kelli Schmidt (23:10.72) came in 28th and 29th, respectively, and Sarah Klecker (23:38.05) rounded out Minnesota's top five in 46th overall (42nd in the team race).
The Gophers placed fourth in the team standings with 133 points. Iowa Central Community College took home the team title with 53 points, placing three runners among the top eight including individual champion Adva Cohen (21:23.74).
Host UW-La Crosse (58) and Nebraska Wesleyan (117) points came in second and third, respectively, and UW-River Falls (147) rounded out the top five teams behind the Gophers.
Minnesota also raced at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational this week, placing 10th among 33 teams led by top-25 finishes from Madeline Strandemo, Megan Hasz, and Bethany Hasz.
The Gophers return home to Les Bolstad Course to host Jack's Twilight Run on Friday, Oct. 20. The 6K race is open to the public with race-day registration only. The race is slated to begin at 6 p.m. CT.
