Gophers Finish Third at Royal Oaks

Dallas-- The Minnesota Gophers finished third overall at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate tournament. Thomas Longbella and Riley Johnson both finished in the top 20, with Longbella tying for ninth.
The Gophers carded a 4-under 848, moving up one place from where they started the day. They finished above Kent State, ranked 14th in Golfstat's top 50. This is the best Gophers team performance since their second place finish on March 22, 2016, at the Barona Collegiate Cup.
Longbella finished in a tie for ninth, improving by 16 places after starting the day tied for 25th. He carded a 3-under 210 for the tournament, including a score of 69 in both the first and third round. This is Longbella's first top-10 finish since last year's Royal Oaks, when he finished in a tie for sixth.
Johnson tied for 12th with a 2-under score of 211. On the first day, he tied his career best with a 67 in the second round. Johnson and Longbella led the tournament in pars, placing second and first, respectively.
Angus Flanagan finished in a tie for 21st. He carded a 213 through three rounds, hitting par for the tournament.
Charlie Duensing finished tied for 53rd with a score of 222. He carded a 72 in the third round. This was Duensing's first appearance on the scoring lineup this season. Peter Jones finished in a tie for 56th with a score of 223.
Baylor, the host school, won the tournament, coming in 25 under par with a score of 827. Baylor golfer Cooper Dossey finished first in the individual field, with an 11-under 202.
