Gophers Fall to Badgers 2-0 in B1G Tournament

On a cold October afternoon, the University of Minnesota soccer team fell in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament 2-0 against the Wisconsin Badgers.
The Badgers scored a goal in each half of play. The first coming on a corner kick, the second came on a ricochet off a Wisconsin forward that dribbled in.
"I thought we broke them down better than we did in our first meeting this season," head coach Stefanie Golan said. "We just were not as crisp in the final third as we normally have been."
The Gophers, now eliminated from the Big Ten Tournament, will have to wait until Nov. 6 when the selections for the NCAA Tournament are announced.
Minnesota had opportunities throughout the game; Sydney Squires led the team in shots with two, including a great opportunity in the first half that was blocked.
After a great pass from Nikki Albrecht, April Bockin sprinted to the ball, and then sent a cross to Sydney Squires that was unable to be finished, keeping the game scoreless 25 minutes into the first half.
In the 66th minute, Squires had the best look in the game for Minnesota. After a pass into the top right corner of the box, Squires fired a shot that sailed just barely high of the crossbar.
Subsequently after the shot, Wisconsin scored their second goal of the game, and the Gophers trailed by multiple goals for the third time this season.
Overall, Wisconsin held advantages in shots and shots on goal. Each team had four corner kicks, with Wisconsin having three offside calls to the Gophers two. Kailee Sharp made four saves in the contest, her second highest total of the season.
