Gopher Trio Named All-Big Ten

MINNEAPOLIS - Gophers Madeline Strandemo, Megan Hasz, and Bethany Hasz earned All-Big Ten honors on Sunday as the University of Minnesota women's cross country team finished as team runner-up at the Big Ten Conference Championship.

Individual Big Ten runner-up Strandemo and fifth-place finisher M. Hasz were named First Team All-Big Ten after receiving Second Team All-B1G accolades last season while B. Hasz earned her first All-Big Ten nod of her career with a 10th-place finish for second team honors.

The Big Ten Conference has also announced that Michigan's Mike McGuire has been named Big Ten Coach of the Year and Michigan State's Maggie Farrell was tabbed Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

Bailey Ness was named one of 14 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honorees as well. The students chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These students must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.

The Big Ten Athlete of the Year will be announced the Tuesday following NCAA Championships. The Championships will be held in Louisville, Ky. on Saturday, Nov. 18.
