Zumwinkle Earns WCHA Weekly Award

MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota freshman Grace Zumwinkle has been selected as this week's WCHA Rookie of the Week, Powered by GoodWood Hockey, after she led the Gophers with five points as Minnesota took four of six points from Minnesota Duluth last week.
For the series, Zumwinkle's five points came on two goals and three assists, and she had eight shots on goal and was plus-three after being on the ice for six of Minnesota's eight goals.
Zumwinkle led all WCHA rookies with five points, two goals, three assists, 2.50 points per game, 1.00 goals per game, 1.50 assists per game, and one point on the power play over the weekend. Her eight shots on goal ranked third among WCHA rookies, and her plus-three plus/minus rating was second only to teammate Olivia Knowles (plus-four). Among all WCHA players, Zumwinkle was tied for the WCHA lead with five points, three assists, 1.50 assists per game, and 2.50 points per game. Her two goals and 1.00 goals per game were tied for third among all WCHA players as well.
In Minnesota's 3-3 overtime tie in game one, Zumwinkle contributed to all three Gopher goals. She set up Minnesota's first goal before scoring her 10th goal of the season to put the Gophers up 2-0 early in the third period. She then set up Caitlin Reilly's power-play goal to make it 3-1 in the third period.
In Minnesota's 5-0 win in game two, Zumwinkle set up the team's second goal before scoring her 11th goal of the season with just nine seconds remaining in the second period to put the Gophers up 5-0.
Nationally, Zumwinkle led all NCAA freshmen with five points, two goals, three assists, 2.50 points per game, and 1.00 goals per game over the weekend. Among all players, her five-point effort was tied for fourth.
Zumwinkle ended the first half of the regular season with eight points (4g-4a) during a team-best four-game point streak; she had multiple points in three of her last four games including each of the last two.
