Minnesota Head Coach, Marlene Stollings
On the shooting performance tonight...
"I was really pleased with our free throw shooting. We were nearly 80 percent for the game. The goal for us was to get 20-plus free throws up. We got 34 up and shot exceptionally well. It was huge in terms of our shooting percentages. I like the fact that we hit the seven threes and we got three people in double figures."
On maintaining the lead…
"I thought the third quarter was crucial for us. We talked a lot at halftime about making them have to match our intensity in the third quarter and if not the other way around. Everyone that played in the third quarter did a really good job of keeping our defensive intensity and pressure on and forcing turnovers. Obviously winning that quarter 25 to 13, it was really hard for them to come back."
On if she thought before the game the Gophers would score so much off turnovers…
"We thought we could be active and disrupt, absolutely. We weren't sure if they would come off turnovers or rebounds, but we did think that we would have opportunities for stops, so very good job on forcing the 19 turnovers."
Gadiva Hubbard
On scoring 19 points...
"It just felt good, you know, I've been out with being sick and then the nose and injuries. It just felt good to be able to score and get back to my normal."
On playing in front of alumni such as Rachel Banham...
"It feels good. I mean we practice against Rachel sometimes. It feels good to show them what I can do."
On steals...
"They were yelling, 'Keep your hands up,' so I was keeping my hands up. And they were literally throwing the balls to my hands."
On getting to the free throw line...
"They're pretty active on defense, so basically attacking them would probably draw a foul most likely, because they are always moving."
On speed and physicality of Big Ten basketball...
"It was pretty physical in the Big East. Probably more than this. I think practicing in the summer with the new group, they do a lot of things that are competitive where you have to be physical in order to win the drill or the things we do in practice."
