The No. 16/14 University of Minnesota Gophers won 10-2 in five innings over Maryland to complete the weekend sweep. Carlie Brandt picked up the win in her first collegiate appearance in the circle.
Sam Macken, Danielle Parlich, Maddie Houlihan and Kendyl Lindaman all had multiple hit games.
Maryland scored two runs early but Brandt came into the circle in relief of Amber Fiser with the bases loaded and one out and shut them down. Brandt did not allow a run in 4.2 innings of work while striking out two batters.
The Gophers quickly answered scoring three runs in the bottom of the first using three hits and two Maryland errors to take the lead. Sydney Dwyer recorded her ninth RBI of the weekend and Lindaman kept her strong tournament going with an RBI single.
Sara Groenewegen recorded a fielder's choice RBI in the second and Macken extended the lead even further in the third. With two runners on base Macken launched her first home run of the season over the wall in right center.
Houlihan started the fourth with a double to left center. She later scored by sliding around a tag on a wild pitch. She finished 3-3 with an RBI.
The Gophers put the game away in the fifth when Parlich drilled a triple right down the right field line to score Macken. Parlich was brought in for the game winning score off a Houlihan single up the middle to complete the run rule.
Partain led the Gophers in hitting with a .533 average on the weekend. Dwyer had nine RBI and a team high .714 slugging percentage.
The Maroon and Gold will compete in the ACC/B1G Challenge down in Raleigh, N.C. next weekend.
