University of Minnesota juniors Tristan Duran and Jalon Stephens are off to Las Vegas, Nev. for the 2017 Winter Cup Challenge. The two day meet will consist of three sessions. Two preliminary sessions will take place on Thursday, Feb. 16 and finals will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18.
Duran qualified for the meet at this past summer's P&G Championships. He is slated to compete on high bar, parallel bars, pommel horse and still rings. Stephens made the cut at the 2017 Windy City Invitational and will represent Minnesota in the all-around competition.
A familiar face and two future Gophers will also compete this weekend. Minnesota alum Ellis Mannon will compete on pommel horse. Mannon won the Winter Cup pommel horse title in 2015, and earned bronze in 2016. Mannon is the program's most recent NCAA Champion. Shane Wiskus and Russell Johnson will compete all-around at the meet, the two will join Minnesota's roster this fall.
