Gophers In the Polls: February 22

Feb. 22, 2017 Minneapolis, Minn. - Take a look at this week's polls as some programs reached new heights while another Gopher program cracked the top 25. Tickets for all upcoming home events are available by visiting mygophersports.com.

Women's Hockey - #4

Last Week: Sidney Peters recorded a career-high 38-save shutout performance as No. 4 Minnesota battled No. 1 Wisconsin to a scoreless overtime tie in front of 3,129 fans at Ridder Arena Sunday afternoon. The Gophers won the shootout, 1-0, on a goal by Lee Stecklein and three more saves by Peters.

This Week: The Gophers begin defense of their back-to-back national championships by kicking off the 2017 postseason against No. 7 seed Bemidji State in the WCHA First Round best-of-three series this weekend at Ridder Arena. Games times are set for 6 p.m. CT Friday and 4 p.m. CT Saturday; game three, if necessary, is slated for 4 p.m. CT Sunday.

Men's Hockey - #4

Last Week: Rem Pitlick gave the No. 5 Gopher Hockey program its first lead of the night with an overtime winner as Minnesota picked up a 4-3 win over No. 8/9 Penn State to complete a Big Ten sweep at Pegula Ice Arena.

This Week: The Maroon & Gold return to action next weekend with a two-game Border Battle series against Wisconsin at Mariucci Arena.

Men's Gymnastics - #5

Last Week: At the 2017 Winter Cup Challenge finals, Golden Gopher Jalon Stephens finished 23rd in the all-around competition, while alum Ellis Mannon finished fifth on pommel horse. Incoming freshman Shane Wiskus also competed in the all-around finals, finishing 12th.

This Week: Minnesota will travel to Palo Alto, Calif. next weekend to face No. 2 Stanford along with the National Teams from both Japan and Canada. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 25 at 6:00 p.m. It will be the first competition of the season that moves from six up, five count to five up, five count.

Softball - #12

Last Week: The University of Minnesota Gophers are off to their best start in program history. They topped North Carolina State 7-1 Sunday afternoon and move to 9-0 on the season.

This Week: The Maroon and Gold will look to keep momentum going at the Fresno State Tournament next weekend. They will play UC Davis twice and Fresno State, Cal Poly and Idaho State once.

Wrestling - #13

Last Week: Minnesota piled up points in Ames on Sunday, winning the dual's first five matches and producing seven bonus-point wins to run up a season-high scoring total in a 40-7 win over Iowa State. The 33-point win is an emphatic finish to a 7-5 (5-4) regular season that included an undefeated run on the road (5-0). The undefeated road record is the first for Minnesota since 2012-13.

Coming Up: The dual was the last for Minnesota this season. The team will have next weekend off to prepare for the Big Ten Championships, which will be held in Bloomington, Ind., on March 4 and 5.

Men's Swimming and Diving - #20

This Week: After an undefeated dual meet season and standout individual performances at championship-style meets, the Golden Gopher men's swimming and diving team will compete at the Big Ten Championships Feb. 22-25 in Columbus, Ohio. The will be streamed on BTN Plus, with tape delayed coverage of Saturday's finals airing Sunday, Feb. 26 at 9:30 a.m. CT.

Women's Swimming and Diving - #21

Last Week: After Minnesota finished fourth at the 2017 Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, Golden Gophers were named recipients of two major conference awards. Yu Zhou earned her third consecutive Big Ten Diver of the Championships accolade, and Tevyn Waddell became Minnesota's third Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

Coming Up: The Gophers are preparing for the NCAA Championships that take place in March.

Men's Tennis - #25

Last Week: The University of Minnesota men's tennis team won their second match of the weekend with a 5-2 victory over Oregon Sunday. This win gives them a 9-1 record on the season.

This Week: The Gophers host No. 8 Oklahoma State 6 p.m. Friday at Baseline Tennis Center.
